Pivot
In March we closed our doors to in person programming for what we thought would only be a few weeks, like many arts organizations we knew we needed to do something to keep our community creating. We came up with the idea of Creative Conversations, an idea of a short art project that could be done at home and encouraged the community to share the work through social media.
It was so great to see our teaching artists and community engaging in the arts with us while we were all working and learning from home, but we were so excited about the prospect of being able to have in person learning start again in the summer. When we found out that couldn’t happen, we had to pivot. It was crucial that we continue to provide programming to our people and we figured out how to do it, through Zoom and YouTube. Our teaching artists recorded videos of lessons that could be done at home for our Community Classes and Chad, Ellie and Emily led a 7 week Urban Artisans program that resulted in some amazing artwork. This couldn’t have been done without our generous sponsors from the Lilly Endowment and the Summer Youth Program Fund. Thank You!
We are so excited to feature the work of the artists that participated in the Zoom and YouTube based online programming, and have missed them in person over the summer. We hope you will join us this Friday for our exhibit in the gallery, we will be open from 6-9pm. Don’t forget your mask and enter through the City Gallery doors (in the Harrison Center) at the corner of 15th and Delaware.
